Case Study: Devon Guild of Craftsmen
www.crafts.org.uk
“We have a fantastic looking site that through the easy to use content management system we have a huge amount of control over. Our Members are enjoying the benefits of being able to sell work online in a web environment that we are all very proud of. We were delighted to have been nominated finalists in the Kentico Website of the Year competition in 2009.”

Goals and Challenges
The Devon Guild of Craftsmen approached us as new clients with a requirement for a web solution that would bring them up to date and help to strengthen and grow the Guild community with an online presence that accurately reflected their status as national leaders in the field.
It was essential that the website appealed to and catered for a diverse audience and provided an attractive yet subtle environment in which artists could showcase their work online. Furthermore an easy to use, flexible and powerful shopping site would enable sales of local exhibition works.
As well as providing information to current members of the Guild, the website was to help promote the work of the Guild to both new and potential members by providing information in an accessible and attractive format.
The biggest challenge during this project was creating a Members Directory. This was a bespoke module developed by Tell that included an image gallery with a search facility. The search facility was based on the Kentico Custom Search Provider.
Solutions
We implemented Kentico CMS using the portal engine and were able to undertake 90% of the development from within the CMS desk.
The features used were as follows:
- E-commerce module enabling the Guild to sell works from their monthly exhibitions
- The Customised Advanced Search, along with the Image Gallery was utilized to create a Members Directory that would showcase members of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and enable users to search by specialist craft, craft type, member name or keyword
- The Diary/Events module enabled the Guild to provide details of current and future events and enabled users to book events online.

- Newsletter – allowing the Guild to keep in contact with members
- News
- Online forms – contact
- Valid XHTML and CSS
- Random Header Graphics
Results
The client is delighted with the site; as well as finding it extremely intuitive to use, the features have enabled the Guild to sell one-off works of art online which was not possible before implementation of the website. The events diary has enabled clear promotion of exhibitions and workshops as well as online bookings – which in turn has increased their event booking numbers. The regular newsletters are permitting enhanced communication with key clients and ensuring that both existing and potential clients are getting more involved.
